With winter around the corner (unfortunately), it’s definitely time to consider improving your vehicle’s headlights and lighting in general. It gets darker so much earlier, meaning that you’re going to be using your headlights a lot more often.
We recently had customer email us a brief review (and pictures) of the XenonDepot Xtreme 9007 HID conversion kit installed in his 2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS. Not only did this review show just how much a 9007 HID kit can improve your vehicle’s lighting, it also showed the differences between low and high beam mode in a 9007 Bi-xenon HID kit. A 9007 halogen bulb is a dual filament incandescent bulb that acts as both a low and high beam bulb. An HID bulb does not have any filaments, meaning that the variance between low and high beam mode is achieved by a “moving bulb” – literally. The bulb physically moves in and out, to change the position of the focal point (arc), which enable the bulb to act as both a low beam and high beam bulb.
9007 HID kits are sold as low beam only and as bi-xenon. Not everyone wants to have a moving bulb, and quite frankly most people don’t want to spend a little more money on a bi-xenon option, so it’s really up to you which 9007 HID conversion kit you choose for your vehicle. The only thing that you need to take into consideration if you’re leaning towards the bi-xenon option, is that a bi-xenon bulb has the high/low mechanism (solenoid) mounted onto the back of the bulb. Picture a cylinder thats roughly 1.5″ long with a 1″ diameter mounted onto the back of the bulb – so ensure you’ve got enough clearance behind the headlight.
Assuming you’ve read up until now, here are some pictures of the Xtreme 9007 HID kit (bi-xenon).

Philips H11 / H8 / H16 LED Bulb
This is not just another LED fog light bulb to help colour match your HID headlights. This ALL NEW LED bulb by Philips (12834UNIX2-H11) is the first cosmetic AND functional LED upgrade bulb available in the market. This beam pattern produced by this bulb will match your stock H11 / H8 / H16 OEM bulb’s beam pattern and literally get the LED light right where it needs to go!! Historically speaking, upgrading your fog light bulbs to LED by replacing the bulb with an “H11 LED bulb” or “H16 LED bulb” was done to get those yellowish fog lights looking white. Sadly, this upgrade has always been “cosmetic” and was not an overly functionally lighting upgrade – that is until Philips decided to “get in the game.”
Philips’ Xtreme Ultinon LED bulb has been especially designed to provide maximum light efficiency without glare to other road users using their patented safe beam lighting technology. Each bulb is rated at approximately 1000 lumens, and produces a 6000k colour temperature – Crisp white while only drawing 10W of power!! Currently, this bulb will only fit an H11, H8, and H16 fog light housing but we’ve been promised that there are more fitments coming down the pipe line.
You’ll definitely see a nice improvement when upgrading your h11 fog light bulb with these H11 LED bulbs by Philips, but the improvement you’ll get when upgrading an H8 or h16 fog light bulb to LED (with this bulb) will be huge given that the stock bulbs are puny low wattage bulbs. This 10W LED bulb will put out nearly double the amount of lumens that your 35W stock bulbs put out – and will run cooler when doing so.
If you want the best LED fog light bulb for your vehicle that uses an H11, H8, or H16 bulb look no further – This will literally be the LAST bulb you ever purchase for that application.
